🔧 Troubleshooting
Common Issues & Solutions
Q: PDF file won't add to the list
A: Check that:
- File is actually a PDF (check file extension)
- PDF is not corrupted (try opening it in a PDF reader)
- You have read permissions for the file
- File is not locked by another application
- If the PDF is password-protected, you will be prompted to enter the password
Q: "Generate Preview" fails or shows errors
A: Possible causes:
- One of the PDFs may be corrupted - remove files one by one to find it
- Insufficient memory - try combining fewer files at once
- Disk space low - ensure adequate free space
- PDF version incompatibility - try re-saving problematic PDFs
Q: Combined PDF is much larger than expected
A: This can happen when:
- Source PDFs contain high-resolution images
- PDFs have embedded fonts that are being duplicated
- Some PDFs were already compressed, others were not
- Use the built-in compression option (Medium or High) when saving to reduce file size
Q: Files appear in wrong order after combining
A: Try these solutions:
- Always use "Generate Preview" before saving to verify order
- Clear the list and re-add files in correct order
- Use drag and drop or Move Up/Down to reorder
- Number your source files for consistent ordering
Q: Application is slow or unresponsive
A: For better performance:
- Close other applications to free up memory
- Process large PDFs in smaller batches
- Ensure sufficient disk space is available
- Wait for progress bar to complete - don't interrupt
Q: Can't save the combined PDF
A: Verify that:
- You have write permissions for the output location
- Output filename is valid (no special characters)
- Disk has sufficient free space
- Output file isn't already open in another program
